Updated: Nov 27, 2024

The intergovernmental organization UNASDG, together with the Hon. Consuls of the Republic of Panama and Jamaica, has founded the Inter-Consular Council for Crisis and Disaster Response.

The UNASDG representatives Senator Pat Meyer and Senator Hans Pflanz, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Panama Michael Haeckel and Honorary Consul of Jamaica Jörn Follmer signed the Treaty, establishing the ICCDR in Munich, Germany, on October 9, 2024.

Honorary Consul Michael Haeckel has been elected Secretary General of the Interconsular Council, while Honorary Consul Joern Follmer has been appointed Deputy Secretary General.

The term of office is 2 years. Senator Pat Meyer is President, Senator Hans Pflanz is Vice President and Dr. Reuben Egolf is Inspector General.

These appointments of Michael Häckel and Jörn Föllmer are of great importance as they place Panama and Jamaica through their key roles as Honorary Consuls in a key position within an intergovernmental organization, dedicated to promoting international cooperation to address global challenges, such as human well-being, stability, and the preservation of peace and human rights.

Mr. Haeckel's leadership role, supported by the UNASDG IGO, will play a crucial role in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals at the global level, which were defined by the United Nations and adopted by 193 member states at the UN General Assembly on September 25, 2015. In addition to his role as Secretary General of ICCDR, Mr. Haeckel is also Chief Operations Officer in the Diplomatic Council of the UnASDG intergovernmental organization.

With the experience and joint commitment of consuls, ambassadors, governments and economic experts from different countries, the Interconsular Council will make a decisive contribution to a safer and more prosperous future.

The use of mutual trust, experience and motivation is essential to turn shared visions into tangible realities that benefit humanity.

Michael Haeckel's nomination as Secretary General underscores Panama's importance on the international stage and offers the opportunity to take a leading role in the realization of projects with global impact.

A major focus of the ICCDR is the promotion of projects for the prevention, relief and recovery of crises and disasters of all kinds.

Taking into account international disaster protection law and the SENDAI framework, the ICCDR, in cooperation with governments and international institutions, will promote projects in all areas of the sustainable development goals. Particular attention is paid to stabilizing the important pillars of energy, security, food and health.

The areas of culture and education are also supported by the platform and international experts.

The ICCDR serves as a diplomatic dialogue forum and is an important link between economy, aid organizations, citizens and politics, in order to jointly develop, implement and maintain constructive solutions for challenges at the global level.
